Description
This is probably one of the largest and nicest Tlingit cedar bark woven fish hat examples, I have ever seen. I hate to part with this beauty, but it’s time to share this with someone else that will admire its significance and historical value. I would date this from the 1920’s due to the style of painting, the colors utilized, and the pigmentation has polychromed. It is certainly from either Kake or Metlakatka, and appears to be the work of Eli Tate with the painting colors and design. This is in 100 percent original condition with no flaws. The woven cedar bark is tight and has nice wrapped edging. Certainly a master basket weaver made this. Appears to be of the “Thunderbird” moiety. Please check out my other rare Alaskan auctions.
